1) What’s in this download?

This download includes two tools that accompany the book:

A) Breakeven Workbook (Excel)
Helps you calculate breakeven targets and sanity-check pricing assumptions.

B) Service Lane Matrix App (Browser-based HTML/JS)
Helps you classify work types so your systems, pricing, and process become repeatable—without burnout.

2) Folder contents

01_Breakeven-Workbook/

AttorneyBreakevenWorkbook_Download.xlsx

02_Service-Lane-Matrix-App/

index.html (open with browser)

app.js

styles.css

3) Quick start
A) Breakeven Workbook (Excel)

Open the file in Microsoft Excel (recommended).

If you see a security banner (“Protected View” / “Enable Editing”), click Enable Editing.

Enter your numbers in the input cells (look for clearly labeled fields).

Save a copy for your own practice:

File → Save As → rename it (recommended format below)

Suggested filename:
Breakeven_Workbook_[FirmName]_YYYY-MM-DD.xlsx

Compatibility notes

Best experience: Excel for Windows or Mac

Other spreadsheet tools (Google Sheets / Numbers / LibreOffice) may display formatting differently and may not support every feature.

B) Service Lane Matrix App (Browser-based)

This app runs locally in your browser—no login required.

To open it:

Open the folder: 02_Service-Lane-Matrix-App

Double-click index.html

If it doesn’t open automatically, right-click → Open with → choose Chrome or Edge.

Tip: Create a desktop shortcut to index.html if you plan to use it often.

Browser recommendations

Chrome, Edge, or Firefox (latest versions)

Safari may work, but if anything looks off, switch to Chrome/Edge.

4) Troubleshooting

Excel shows “Protected View” or won’t let me edit

Click Enable Editing.

If downloaded from the internet, Windows may block it:

Right-click the file → Properties → check Unblock (if present) → Apply.

The app opens but looks unstyled / broken

Make sure you did not move only index.html by itself.

Keep index.html, app.js, and styles.css in the same folder.

The app won’t save my work

Some browser tools store data locally (in your browser storage). If you clear browser data, you may lose saved inputs.

If your version includes export features, use them periodically.

5) Privacy & security notes

The Service Lane Matrix App is designed to run locally on your computer.

We recommend entering practice numbers and scenarios, not sensitive client identifiers.

You are responsible for protecting downloaded files on your device (password-protected computer, firm security policies, backups, etc.).
